Adult Assessments

Services

A Psychological assessment is initiated for adults over 18 who require support or services. There are many situations for an evaluation, such as:

  • Adults who require accommodations for Post-Secondary or want more understanding of how they learn.
  • Adults applying to AISH require a psychological assessment and report describing functioning.
  • Or an adult may have struggled for years and is now wondering what their symptoms mean. Do they have an undiagnosed mood disorder complicating things, is a very weak memory affecting attention, or are they just wondering what is "expected" functioning.

Just like a doctor will help a person understand their body better, a psychological assessment will help adults understand their mental and emotional functioning.

Process and Time

Having a comprehensive assessment requires a large time commitment, but this is to provide a much better picture of you as a client. Below is a sample of what will occur over your 2-3 day appointments. Appointments for testing are booked in three-hour increments, with a final 1 hour debrief at the end.

Day 1

  • Complete Consent Forms and comprehensive Interview- About 1 hour
  • Cognitive Assessment or "Brain Games"- About 2 hours

Day 2 (Maybe 3)

  • Academic Functioning- if required to look into learning disabiliites - About 2-3 hours.
  • Other assessments as required (memory, fine motor, attention, etc.)- Time varies.
  • Questionnaires and forms completed by Spouse or Family and Self - Time varies.

Debrief Day

  • Final Feedback Debrief to discuss results - About 1 hour

Important Considerations

  • I cannot guarantee acceptance into the AISH program. I just provide necessary documentation needed to apply.
  • Please let me know if you have medical documents to consider as part of the assessment. Bring any relevant information to the intake interview.
  • It is the client responsibility to ensure documentation reaches relevant people. I cannot talk to AISH, school or doctor on your behalf.
  • To receive the completed report may take up to one month after last testing day, or from the day all forms are returned.
